Thank you for your interest in the Howard County Coaches and Administrators Registry. This Registry was established to further ensure the safety and security of our youth athletes through coaching education and training, as well as, to move toward a more simplified approach to coaching accreditation. All coaches (head, assistant, volunteer and paid) and Team Administrators must complete the Coaches and Administrators Registry Opportunity on our Volunteer Site, www.HoCoVolunteer.org, before participating in our youth sports programs. Returning coaches and administrators must update their information on the site annually and request renewal of their Registry status prior to applying for any sport specific Coaching or Administrator opportunity.

The “Registry” utilizes the County Volunteer Software to process applications to the “Registry”.  All applicants should attach the following to their volunteer (including employees, contractors…) profile on www.HoCoVolunteer.org:

  • Head shot from the shoulders up. This photo is placed on your Coaches and Administrators Registry badge that is required to be worn while coaching.
  • Certificate from the National CPR Foundation's CPR/AED/First Aid course. Coaches and Administrators can request a link to take the course for free directly from the Volunteer website.
  • Certificate from the “Concussion in Sports” course at www.NFHSLearn.com.
  • Work Permit if the applicant is under the age of 18.

All applicants over the age of 18 must undergo a background check (employees will undergo CJIS fingerprinting upon hiring and have a background review in subsequent years). In order to complete their background check, applicants will receive an email with a link to  submit information after attaching an CPR/AED/First Aid certificate to their profile. The background checks are completed on-line on a secured site. Returning coaches and administrators will need to request an update to their registry status, including a background review, on an annual basis if they plan to continue coaching or involved as an administrator with our programs.

To learn more about coaching and serving as an administrator in our youth sports programs and to get started in the Registry process, you can contact any of our youth sports program coordinators (Recreation & Parks Contact Page) or please feel free to contact the following people if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns.
